Addressing Hate Speech Through Strategic Branding. A Social Media Platform's Approach to Fostering Inclusivity and Acceptance
I was tasked with creating and compiling a design solution that explores my passion within media design, encompassing an in-depth investigation and analysis of contextual issues, documented through an annotated bibliography and report, and culminating in a final artefact that demonstrates technical competency and relevance to my research.

This project was developed during my second year at Media Design School.
The approach
For the people™ has been designed in a way that puts user interests first. The interface is highly intuitive and easy to navigate thanks to its interactive elements that facilitate better interaction with users. To make it inclusive, attractive, and positive in nature, visual aesthetics such as colour palettes and typography have been well selected.

To achieve a safe and respectful environment I’ve employed AI-backed content moderation tools and community reporting mechanisms. This type of design will lead to a seamless user experience that enhances our responsibility of creating an accepting virtual society for all.

However, when this project was started it was originally going to be a social media
campaign.
Social Media Campaign
To start the project amounted with a tonne of research envoking the idea that to change a behaviour I needed to generate a campaign to make people think and feel differently about social change. This amounted to the hypothetical growth of a twitter page, podcast and a social media ad campaign that allowed for a 3 part mass media design.

This idea was however changed from my later understanding that instead of changing the behaviour of someone what if their actons could be stopped in the first place.
App Design
The For the people™ concept has evolved into an AI-focused social media platform addressing the crucial need for safe online connections, featuring advanced content moderation algorithms, real-time reporting mechanisms, and user-friendly interfaces to combat hate speech effectively and promote positive interactions. Emphasising prevention strategies, the platform empowers users to engage meaningfully while maintaining respect and inclusivity.

Integrating insights from user experience design, colour psychology, and messaging strategies, it disseminates pro-acceptance messages while actively preventing hate speech. Aligned with GLAAD's LGBTQ Social Media Safety Program and informed by Moira Walker's work on prevention and early intervention, the platform implements robust safety measures based on community feedback, setting a new standard for online safety, inclusivity, and positive communication.
